Volunteer Opportunities

The AOA is always looking to advance the profession and by doing so, it requires help from its registered Opticians. Often there are opportunities for our members to be part of different committees, or sometimes appointments to Council positions are required to be filled during a term in which a Director is unable to commit time to his/her position on Council.

Opticians who are interested in contributing to the governance of Opticianry in Alberta are invited to run for the Board elections. If you are a member that is interested applying to be a part of a committee or fill vacant Council positions please contact the office for more information.

Committee member positions:

Committee members are Opticians who are passionate about their profession and want to ensure safe and effective care to the public. Committees are integral to the work of the AOA. Join one of our committees: negotiations, finance and audit, disciplines, registration, PLA, field supervision, examinations, practice review.

All Committees are currently filled with volunteers and AOA Council, but the AOA is interested in all Members who have a passion for the AOA's work in regulating the profession in the public interest. Please contact the AOA at aoa@opticians.ab.ca to indicate your interest. When Committee positions become available, potential Committee members will be invited to an in-person meeting with the AOA to learn more about the Committees.

Council of Directors member positions:

Opticians who are interested in contributing to the governance of Opticianry in AB are invited to run in the Board elections. Please contact the AOA at aoa@opticians.ab.ca if you are interested in more information about the work of the Council.

National Examinations volunteer positions:

Examiners help to ensure fairness and high standards at the entry-to-practice examinations. Models and examiners are remunerated on an hourly basis.
