Should a registrant decide not to renew their Practice Permit as a Registered Optician or Registered Contact Lens Practitioner by December 31st with the Alberta Opticians Association in any given registration year they will automatically be suspended. This is a legal requirement and will occur regardless of the reason for not renewing. We encourage our members to let us know if they will not be renewing.
Members have three years from the date of their suspension in which to reinstate their license to avoid their application being referred to the Registration Committee for review. Should a member's Practice Permit be suspended and they decide to reinstate their certificate of registration as a Registered Optician or Registered Contact Lens Practitioner they must contact the AO and request a reinstatement application package and verify / update their home mailing address. A reinstatement application package will then be mailed/faxed/emailed out.
