The COA registration period runs from January1 to December 31 every year with registration and payment due on December 1st. Registrants of the College of Opticians of Alberta are required to renew their registrations on an annual basis (December 1st). Registrants will normally receive their annual registration renewal application in the mail during the month of September.Online Registration and Renewal
Registrants are required to submit to the COA a completed Renewal Application along with supporting documentation and payment. Renewal forms that are incomplete, missing documentation or contain insufficient payment will NOT be processed. Supporting documents include:

The AOA has a category of Non-Practicing status. This non-practicing status indicates that you will not practice Opticianry during the time you are a Non-Practicing member. This status is typically used for women on maternity leave, out of country, or if you are leaving the field but wish to maintain your Optician license.
Proof of Insurance
AOA reminds all practicing registrants to submit proof of their professional liability insurance. This can be a certificate of insurance or a letter issued by the insurance broker. The policy must contain:
- Insurance liability of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence
The OAC and COA have joined together to creat a blended membership
Mandatory Continuing Education
